防毒內核
avast! for Linux 使用跟Windows系統一樣的防毒內核.
最新版本的avast!防毒內核擁有突出的查殺功能,而且性能相當高,它可以檢測出接近100%的流行病毒(已經在用戶之間傳播的病毒),還有出色的檢測木馬病毒功能和極低的誤報率.
此內核通過ICSA實驗室認證;而且經常參加Virus Bulletin雜誌的測試,屢次獲得VB100獎項.
像Windows版本一樣, avast!的Linux版本引擎有突出的解壓功能,它可以掃描MAPI, CAB, ACE, CHM, 7ZIP 和 NTFS 流.而且還可以掃描以下格式的壓縮檔案: ARJ, ZIP, MIME (+ 所有組合格式), DBX (Outlook Express 壓縮檔), RAR, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, ZOO, ARC, LHA/LHX, TNEF (winmail.dat), CPIO, RPM, ISO, 和 SIS. 另外它還支持一些可執行壓縮器 (例如, PKLite, Diet, UPX, ASPack, FSG, MEW, 等).
用戶介面

用戶介面需要GTK+ 2.x 庫. 如果您的系統沒有安裝這些程式庫,可使用安裝套裝力面的配置.
命令行掃描器
經驗豐富的用戶可使用命令行控制手動掃描器.它允許掃描指定目錄裡面的檔案和本地及遠程卷.當然命令行掃描器還可以掃描通過網絡掛載的卷.程序是非常靈活的;它可以接收大量參數指令,它還能夠創建大量供分析用的報告檔案.
掃描器能夠在STDIN/STDOUT模式運作,把它用作管道過濾器.這個模式主要是在shell腳本上使用.
自動更新
病毒防護的另外一個關鍵是病毒數據庫的更新.Avast!病毒定義碼每週更新至少3次,確保您的系統得到最新的病毒防護.
病毒隔離區
Linux版本的病毒隔離區安全儲存可疑檔案,用戶可以選擇刪除這些檔案或者對它們執行其它操作.
國際化

February, 2009 - the Virus Bulletin test focused this month on the Linux platform. According to the Virus Bulletin report, avast! for Linux ,
which was developed specifically for the Linux platform, displayed
excellent scanning speeds (both on access and on demand), and detection rates were at their usual exemplary level. avast! for Linux detected all viruses on the Wild
List with no false positives and it has received the first VB100
Award in 2009.
April, 2007 - In the latest Virus Bulletin tests (April 2007, SUSE Linux) avast! again detected all ItW viruses (i.e. viruses known to be 'in the wild') and was given another VB100% award! This is third VB100% for Linux version in a row!
